welcome to history
This is an introductory course to history - not just what happened in the world of the recent past, but how to think like an historian.
We will not answer every question you have about why the world is the way it is; rather, the aim of this class is to give you the skills you need to conduct your own investigations.
Being a good thinker is not just a matter of reading books and writing well. Those things are useful and important, but far more important is...
developing the eye of a detective and the mind of a psychologist,
having empathy for people but enough critical detachment to look behind their words,
asking good questions and be alert enough to grasp the opportunities to answer those questions,
being humble enough to admit you may be wrong
We will be practicing these skills though a variety of thinking, reflecting and critiquing activities, through problem-solving and project design, and yes, through reading and writing.
